Galesburg offers cooling centers to beat heat wave

With a heat advisory set to begin at noon on Saturday, forecasting heat index values near 105, Galesburg is offering cooling centers to protect residents from dangerous heat and humidity.

The Knox County Emergency Management Agency warns that the elderly and young are most at risk for heat-related illnesses, such as nausea, dizziness, heavy sweating, or headaches, which can lead to serious injury or death if untreated. For symptoms like vomiting or loss of consciousness, call 9-1-1 immediately.
