No injuries were reported, but a structure on West Water Street sustained heavy fire and smoke damage on Wednesday night.
The Galesburg Fire Department responded to the fire at 143 W. Water St. at 7:17 p.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival, crews observed flames on the east side of the structure, impacting both the first and second floors.
Central Station firefighters extinguished the fire using a hose line. The second floor sustained significant fire and smoke damage. Off-duty personnel were called in to maintain citywide emergency coverage.
Galesburg fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
