Clayton, Pauline

Pauline Clayton, 92, of Knoxville, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Seminary Manor, Galesburg. 

Pauline was born on July 27, 1932, in Warren County, Illinois. She was the daughter of Melvin and Ethel (Cunningham) Kirby. Pauline married Melvin “Pete” Clayton on October 29, 1953, in Rockford. Together they celebrated 41 years of marriage before his passing on August 11, 1995. Surviving Pauline are her children, Perry Clayton and Brenda (Jay) Snider, both of Galesburg; her grandchildren, Jacob Snider, Keri (Snider) Dillon and Tina Suddeth; and two great grandchildren, Eric and Page Suddeth. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Vickie Hutchings and eight siblings. 

Pauline was a graduate of Roseville High School. She worked as an asst. credit manager at Gambles-Skogmo and at the Monmouth Telephone Company and later for Sylvania IRC in Burlington. Pauline enjoyed gardening. She loved traveling with Pete and later attending country music concerts with her daughter and granddaughter.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2025, at the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory are assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be donated to the Knox County Humane Society.
