Bradley, Stephen

Stephen “Steve” Bradley, age 77, died on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois.

Steve was born on November 20, 1947, in Meredosia, Illinois, the son of Norman and Lois (Smith) Bradley. He married Pamela Bailey on May 13, 1971, in Beardstown Illinois, she preceded him in death on February 13, 2014.

Surviving are his daughters; Dawn (Greg) Hillman of Tremont, and Jennifer (James) Johnson of East Galesburg, five grandchildren; Aury (Jacob) Pendergast of East Galesburg, Maverick Hillman of Tremont, Paxton Jobe of Florida, Dawson Hillman of Tremont, and Zoey Johnson of East Galesburg, one brother; Ronald Bradley of Arkansas, and his best friend; Dave Hankins of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his wife; Pamela, his parents, and twenty-three siblings.

Steve graduated from Beardstown High School and went on to further his education at Knox College and Carl Sandburg College. He then joined the Navy during the Vietnam war, serving from 1966 to 1968. After his time in the Navy, he joined the National Guard as a sergeant. Steve was a handy man, and did various maintenance jobs throughout the county. He was the mayor of East Galesburg, a semitruck driver, an auto mechanic and worked at Maytag for a number of years before retiring. Though Steve had many titles throughout his life, his favorite title was “Grandpa”. He took great pride in his role as a grandfather and loved his grandchildren endlessly. 

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois. A fellowship will be held after services at the Hurd-Hendricks Fellowship Hall, in Knoxville. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory; Knoxville, Illinois are assisting the family with his arrangements.
