A longtime city employee with more than a decade of experience in administration has been selected as Galesburg’s assistant city manager, director of community engagement, and public information officer.
Cathy St. George, most recently administration services manager for the City, assumed the newly-created position of assistant city manager on Tuesday.
As assistant city manager, St. George will serve as a key member of the City’s leadership team, contributing to city-wide goals, operational effectiveness, and the management of daily operations. A central responsibility of her new role will be leading the development and execution of a comprehensive citywide communications and engagement strategy, a top-ranked goal in the City’s 2024 strategic plan.
“Cathy is the ideal candidate to fill this position, bringing a unique combination of experience and expertise in both municipal management and communications,” said City Manager Eric Hanson. “She’s consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment and skill, steadily advancing through promotions to this pivotal leadership position.”
St. George holds both a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (BA) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), equipping her with a strong foundation in public policy, strategic leadership and organizational management. Before joining the City of Galesburg, she held positions at Western Illinois University, University of Illinois Extension, and Western Illinois Economic Development Partnership.
Over the past 10 years, St. George has held multiple leadership roles within City administration, contributing meaningfully to communications, legal services and City management initiatives. Her diverse background and steady advancement reflect her dedication to effective governance and public engagement.
“I’m honored to be selected for this leadership position and grateful for the opportunity to continue to grow within an organization and community with immense potential,” St. George said.
“I look forward to continuing to work alongside our dedicated team to strengthen our engagement with the community and foster practices that position the City for long-term success.”
