Galesburg extends limb drop-off hours for storm cleanup

In response to downed tree branches caused by the storm in the early hours of Monday, the City of Galesburg is announcing extended hours for the oversized brush and limb drop-off site to aid residents with clean-up efforts.

The oversized brush and limb drop-off site, located at 636 Pickard Road, is typically open seasonally on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To accommodate the increased need for disposal of large limbs, the site will be open daily from Tuesday, July 29, through Sunday, August 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After August 3, the site will revert to its normal schedule.

This is a self-service site, and is available free of charge to all Galesburg residents who pay refuse charges on their water bill, and use by commercial contractors is prohibited.

In addition to the drop-off location for large limbs, smaller branches can be placed at the curb for collection. Curbside yard waste is picked up on the resident’s normal refuse day and should meet the requirements listed below.

  • Yard waste must be in a paper yard waste bag or a refuse can clearly marked with “YW” on the outside.
  • Yard waste can also be bundled in lengths no more than 5 feet and weighing less than 50 pounds.
  • Ties for bundles must be degradable.
  • No single piece of brush may be greater than 5 inches in diameter.
