Two downtown Galesburg businesses were targeted in attempted robberies early Sunday, with break-ins reported at Innkeeper’s Fresh Roasted Coffee and Hairetcetera Salon & Spa.
At Innkeeper’s, located at 80 N. Seminary St., owner Jessica Ketchum said a masked individual broke the front door just after midnight and entered the building.
“Upon realizing that all monetary funds were secured, the individual swiftly left,” Ketchum told WGIL. The overnight baker discovered the damage and alerted Ketchum and her husband, Ben. Security footage confirmed the intentional act, prompting a police report.
“We are so fortunate that our staff is all safe and that the only damage was to our front door,” Ketchum said. “We are thankful for everyone who has reached out in support of us! We are so grateful to be surrounded and supported by a town that’s full of so much more love than this one bad act.”
Hairetcetera, at 74 S. Seminary St., also reported a break-in on its Facebook page, stating, “Hairetcetera was broken into last night, but luckily no one was hurt.” The salon plans to resume normal operations on Tuesday, adding, “It’ll take a bit more effort than this to stop us from doing what we do best.”
Galesburg Police Chief Kevin Legate said at this time, it appears these are the only two businesses that were targeted, and they do appear related. .
The Galesburg Police Department is investigating, and WGIL will provide updates as details emerge.
