Mrs. H. “Elaine” Glass, 95, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away at 8:23 pm, Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Mercy One Genesis Hospital in Davenport, Iowa.
Elaine was born March 5, 1930, the daughter of Lawrence and Rena “Claire” (Chesser) Irish. She married Wayne L. Glass on December 23, 1951, in Blandinsville, Illinois. After 61 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on February 21, 2013.
Surviving are her children, twins, Marte Glass and Mack (Bonnie) Glass both of Galesburg, Jeffrey (Nancy) Glass of St. Louis, Missouri, Jolene (the late Anji) Reddy of Springfield, Illinois, Janine Glass of Galesburg; one sister, Emalou “Lou” (the late John) Boyer of Granite City, Illinois; five grandchildren, Sheena (David) Leonard of Hanover Park, Illinois, Amelia Glass of St. Louis, Ravi Reddy of Chicago, Lily (Jamal) Commander of Charlotte, North Carolina and Justin Glass of Arcola, Illinois; and three great grandchildren, Benett, Norah and Rylan Leonard. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wayne, three brothers, Larry (Edie) Irish, Wilfred Irish and Ted (Diana) Irish, one sister, Kathleen Irish, her son-in-law, Anji Reddy and her brother-in-law, John Boyer.
Elaine graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1947 and later Methodist School of Nursing, Peoria in 1951 as a Registered Nurse. She worked for the State of Illinois as a nursing supervisor for the former Galesburg State Research Hospital and Zeller Hospital (Peoria State Hospital) for over 30 years, retiring in 1994.
Elaine had a love of bird watching, reading and studying family genealogy. She enjoyed quilting and collecting cookbooks. She was known for baking pumpkin pies, variety of breads and homemade chicken and noodles. Elaine’s true love was devoting her time to her family and spending time with her grandchildren and later her great grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 1-2 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2025, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the chapel with Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating.
