United High School graduate Jackson Gillen has been named the recipient of the Security Savings Bank Academic Scholarship, a $1,000 award renewable for up to four years at an academic or technical college.

Gillen, son of Stephanie and the late Mark Gillen, plans to study agriculture at Iowa State University this fall. The scholarship, offered through the Mellinger Foundation in Monmouth, is available to students from Warren and Henderson counties who apply for Mellinger Scholarships. The foundation selects the recipient based on those applications.

Security Savings Bank, with locations in Monmouth and Stronghurst, presents the scholarship annually to support local students pursuing higher education.
