State Reps. Dan Swanson, R-Alpha, Norine Hammond, R-Macomb, and Travis Weaver, R-Peoria, will host a series of free farmland assessment seminars on Sept. 2 and 3 to help local farmers and landowners navigate the farmland assessment process.
“These meetings will help residents better understand the farmland assessment process and how to challenge an assessment if something seems incorrect,” said Swanson, a farmer who represents the 71st District.
The seminars, presented by Brenda Matherly, director of local government for the Illinois Farm Bureau, will be held in collaboration with local county farm bureaus. The same presentation will be offered at four locations across western Illinois, and all events are open to the public with no RSVP required.
Seminar Schedule:
- Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1 p.m.: Moline Public Library, 3210 41st St., Moline
- Tuesday, Sept. 2, 3 p.m.: Knox County Farm Bureau, 180 S. Soangetaha Road, Galesburg
- Wednesday, Sept. 3, 8:30 a.m.: Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau Office, 1000 N. Main St. #1, Monmouth
- Wednesday, Sept. 3, 11 a.m.: Spoon River College Community Outreach Center, 2500 E. Jackson St., Macomb
The seminars aim to clarify how farmland assessments are calculated and address the impact of rising assessments on property taxes. For more information, contact Swanson’s office at 309-334-7474 or visit repswanson.com for legislative updates and event details.
