Truck hits train in rural Knox County, driver hospitalized

A driver of a pickup truck sustained serious injuries when his vehicle struck a train Monday night near Abingdon in rural Knox County.

At approximately 6:50 p.m. Monday, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a traffic accident in the 200 block of Knox Highway 5. According to preliminary investigations, the pickup truck collided with a train at a crossing. The driver, whose identity has not been released, was seriously injured and was transported from the scene by emergency medical personnel for treatment.

No additional injuries were reported at the scene.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
