The Galesburg Fire Department extinguished a commercial structure fire at Midstate Manufacturing Company on Friday afternoon, with no injuries reported and the cause determined to be accidental.
Fire crews from all three stations responded to the call at 750 W. Third St. at 2:15 p.m. Friday, where they encountered heavy smoke coming from a structure within the plant. The department’s 11 on-duty personnel were dispatched, and the Central Station crew made the initial attack with a hose line to put out the flames. Galesburg Fire Chief Randy Hovind told WGIL the quick response prevented further damage.
Midstate Manufacturing, a 150,000-square-foot facility established in 1977, specializes in metal fabrication, machining, welding and custom parts for industries including agriculture, food processing and power generation.
To ensure citywide emergency coverage during the incident, an emergency callback of off-duty firefighters was initiated.
The fire was brought under control quickly, and investigators ruled it accidental. No further details on the extent of damage were immediately available.
