Icenogle, Randy

Randy Neil Icenogle, 71, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 10, 2025, at his home. His family and friends are deeply saddened by his sudden death.

He is survived by his former wife, Valerie Icenogle; daughter Ali (and Emily) Icenogle, Tucson, AZ; brother Gary (and Pam) Icenogle, Galesburg, IL; sister Nancy (and Albert) Leonard, Galesburg, IL; nieces Tammy Grohs, Chicago, IL; Cari (and Mike) Libby, Minneapolis, MN; Kimmi (and Aaron) Day, Indianapolis, IN; nephews Chris Grohs, Plymouth, MN; Brian (and Sarah) Visel, Atlanta, GA; and David (and Sheena) Leonard, Hanover Park, IL.

Randy was preceded in death by his mother Lois (Icenogle) Hutson.

He was born May 3, 1954, in Galesburg. Attended school in Galesburg, graduating in 1972 and was a prominent athlete on the track and cross country teams. Randy held many records at GHS. In 2004, he was inducted into the GHS Sports Hall of Fame. Ice, as he was fondly referred to by his teammates, continued his running career at Illinois State University, breaking several indoor and outdoor records.

After earning his bachelor of science degree at ISU, he moved to Phoenix and attended Arizona State, earning his Master of Science degree. He remained in Phoenix where he worked as a financial analyst at Arizona Public Service until his retirement.

Randy found humor in every situation and gained a reputation for his various pranks, pyrotechnics, and other antics – very often landing him in the emergency room. He was a brilliant mathematician and engineer, finding enjoyment in constructing devices to eliminate household inconveniences.

Randy was devoted to his family and would go to great lengths to support his loved ones. His family and friends in Phoenix were fortunate enough to borrow him for a time, however, per his wishes he will be returned to his hometown to rest next to his mother in Memorial Park Cemetery. A private family service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday,  Oct 2, 2025.

Memorials can be made to the GHS Athletic Dept. A Celebration of life will be held for Randy at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 at Cherry St Brewing Co., 117 S Cherry St, Galesburg.
