A single-vehicle crash on Oct. 10 claimed the life of a Monmouth man on 180th Avenue, east of 110th Street, near U.S. 34 in Warren County. Warren County Coroner Al McGuire has identified the victim as Charles L. Mullhatten, 73, of Monmouth.
According to a preliminary investigation by Illinois State Police Troop 4, the crash occurred at approximately 9:53 a.m. when a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Mullhatten, crossed the center line and entered a steep ditch on the north side of the road for unknown reasons. Emergency responders pronounced the driver deceased at the scene.
Both lanes of 180th Avenue were closed for approximately two hours following the incident. The Illinois State Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
