Harvey D. Peterson, 90, of Aledo, Illinois, passed away Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Mercer Manor Rehabilitation in Aledo. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 9-11 a.m. at the Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. The funeral service will directly follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Aledo Cemetery. Harvey was born on July 30, 1935, the son of Clarence and Myrtle Johnson Peterson. Harvey attended the Viola schools. On August 26, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marilyn L. Bryant at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Aledo. They were married for 61 years before her passing on May 24, 2018.

Harvey was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church where he held many positions. He was a member of the Oak View Country Club. He was active with the University of Illinois Extension, including serving on several committees and with the Extensions experimental farm outside of Monmouth. Roger was also a 50-year member of the Viola Masonic Lodge. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by 4 children, Kathy (Brad) Bowman of St. Johns, FL, Karen (Doug) Schwartzkopf of West Bend, IA, Deanna (Bryan) Nicholas of Sarasota, FL, Michael (Vicki) Peterson of Aledo, IL; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren with another lovingly expected; aunt, Audrey Bryant of Joy, IL; brother-in-law, Roger Smallwood of Alexis, IL; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by parents; wife; 2 brothers, Harry Peterson, Lavern “Bud” Peterson; and 2 sisters, Ione Shike, and Gladys Carlson.
