The Knoxville Community Unit School District #202 Board of Education has selected Dr. Andrew D. Brooks as the district’s next Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2026—a full-circle homecoming for the educator whose career began nearly three decades ago teaching high school science in the district’s former building.
Brooks, who brings more than 19 years of experience as a superintendent, currently leads Wethersfield CUSD #230. Since 2022, he has guided the district through academic growth, facility upgrades, and a renewed focus on school culture. Wethersfield High School earned Exemplary designations from the Illinois State Board of Education, fine arts programs expanded across all grade levels, and technology systems were modernized. Major projects—including HVAC improvements, districtwide flooring renovations, and infrastructure enhancements—have strengthened the learning environment for every student.
Prior to Wethersfield, Brooks served as superintendent in Delavan and South Pekin districts.
“I am both humbled and excited to return to the district where my teaching career first began,” Brooks said in a district news release. “During my first-year teaching in Knoxville, my principal, Ron McGraw, encouraged me to pursue my advanced degree and principal certification because he saw leadership potential in me.
“Looking back now, I’m incredibly grateful for that guidance—it set the course for everything that followed. I’m eager to partner with the Board, staff, and community to continue building on Knoxville’s strong traditions of academic excellence, student achievement, and community pride.”
A central Illinois native, Brooks and his wife, Carrie, have raised four children—three now public school teachers.
Board President Vicki Rose said: “Dr. Brooks is a leader with a proven track record of excellence with his previous districts. The board is united and truly excited about Dr. Brooks coming on board. His passion for education and serving the community are contagious and we look forward to building this partnership for the future of Knoxville District #202.”
The district says Brooks will collaborate with current leadership in the months ahead to ensure a smooth transition before officially taking the role on July 1, 2026.
