A Maquon woman was sentenced Monday in Knox County court to 50 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for murdering and concealing the death of the former Maquon Police Chief.

Marcy Oglesby, 53, was found to have killed her longtime romantic partner Richard Young by poisoning him with eyedrops and then concealing his death by hiding his body in a storage locker.

Oglesby was initially charged in October 2022 and was found guilty on June 26, 2025, of the first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated battery.

Judge Andrew Doyle, who handed down the sentence, gave Oglesby credit for 326 days already served, and a motion for a new trial was set for Nov. 6 at 9 a.m.

Prior to the sentencing hearing, Doyle heard a motion from Oglesby for a continuance and appointment of new counsel. That motion was denied.
