A popular fast-casual restaurant chain expects to be serving frozen custard and steakburgers in Galesburg early next year.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is targeting a mid-to-late January opening at 1597 N. Henderson St. in Galesburg, according to an update provided to WGIL.

Steven Young of Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based MLY Investments, which operates 11 Freddy’s locations across Iowa and Illinois, shared the latest timeline with WGIL on Wednesday.

“We’re anticipating a mid-late January open,” Young said.

The former H&R Block tax office, located south of City Select Motors, was demolished this summer to make way for a 3,019-square-foot facility. Construction crews have been on site for several weeks, and as of Wednesday evening, the building’s frame was taking shape. A sign out front announces that Freddy’s is now hiring for the new location.

“And yes we are currently seeking management candidates, and have hired a few managers who are already training in some of our existing stores,” Young continued. “They are great people who perfectly fit the Freddy’s brand philosophy—to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone they meet by being a Bright Spot in their day.”

Young added, “We are excited to get this location open and welcome the people of Galesburg with genuine hospitality!”

The new Galesburg Freddy’s will include a drive-thru, delivery and mobile carry-out options, approximately 80 indoor seats, and 16 on the outdoor patio.
