The community showed strong support for the FISH of Galesburg Food Pantry during Saturday’s Community Food Drive, collecting more than 3,000 pounds of non-perishable food and over $4,500 in monetary donations in a single day.

Katherine Seguino, Executive Director of FISH of Galesburg, called the results “incredible,” noting the combined contributions equate to roughly a month’s worth of food distribution.

“This will definitely help stock our shelves with needed staples as well as a few new options for our guests,” Seguino said.

The Nov. 8 drive—sponsored by WGIL, FM95, K-FM, The Laser, and Z106.1—was held at both Hy-Vee locations and the Walmart Supercenter in Galesburg, along with Fareway in Monmouth.

Another Community Food Drive is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, at the same Galesburg locations, plus Abingdon. Organizers encourage donations of cereal, soup, canned vegetables and meats, oatmeal, rice, dried potatoes, and easy-open ready-to-eat meals, along with cash or checks.
