Darla Wagy

Darla Rae Wagy, 63, of Macomb, Illinois, passed away at 7:45 a.m., Thursday, November 27, 2025 at the Elms in Macomb. She was born April 10, 1962, in Avon, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Keith and Rosalie (Bivens) Wagy. She was raised and educated in Avon, graduating from Avon High School in 1981.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sisters; Karey (Jerry) Shultz of London Mills, Sherry (Gary) Knapp of Avon; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and several special friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and one brother, Kevin Wagy.

Darla worked at Kmart, Hardees, Burger King and Bridgeway, doing various jobs over the years.

Darla enjoyed participating in several Special Olympics events, including basketball, track and bowling. She enjoyed attending the State Special Olympics and seeing all of the State Policemen, and friends from other towns, who supported the events. She received several medals and awards including the first Marjorie Connor Award. She was an avid LA Dodgers fan and loved to watch Lakers’ basketball and Rams’ football. She enjoyed getting her fingernails painted. She loved taking ceramics and cooking classes through the park district in Macomb. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends, especially her dad. The highlight of every year was attending the Avon Fat Steer Show. She loved all holidays, but Christmas was her favorite and she always made sure everyone got a gift. She never forgot a birthday and was always the first to send birthday wishes to everyone. Most recently she enjoyed getting back in touch with her classmates through social media. She was a great friend and never had a negative word to say about anyone. Her life’s motto was “Be Kind.”

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2025, at the funeral home. A time of visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Avon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Macomb Park District for the Special Olympics Athletic Events and left in the care of the funeral home.
