Galesburg School District 205 is selling its former Hawthorne warehouse at 2150 Veterans Drive just weeks after moving into a new building.
The Board of Education approved the sale resolution 6-0 at Monday’s (Dec. 8) meeting, with Rodney Phelps abstaining. The resolution declares the property “unnecessary, unsuitable and inconvenient” for district use.
Superintendent John Asplund told WGIL the district vacated the warehouse on Nov. 1 when staff moved into the new, larger Dayton Street facility on the Galesburg High School campus.
“The new warehouse gives us 20 percent more space and is much more efficient,” Asplund said. “There are reasons we moved out.”

The building is being sold “as is” with a current tenant occupying part of the space. Sealed bids are due by Dec. 29 with a minimum offer of $14,000. The three highest bidders will be allowed to raise their offers, and the board reserves the right to reject any or all bids.
The sale is part of the district’s Northside campus project. More details on that project here: D205 Northside project update (May 2025).
