Appellate court upholds conviction, 28-year sentence for former Galesburg-area martial arts coach

The Illinois Fourth District Appellate Court has upheld the conviction and 28-year prison sentence of former local martial arts coach Beau W. Admire.

Admire, 45, who owned a gym in Monmouth and later Badger Combatives in downtown Galesburg, was convicted in August 2024 following a bench trial on two counts of criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

The crimes occurred between 2010 and 2011 when the victim was 13–14 years old and Admire, then 17 or older, held a position of trust, authority or supervision.

In a ruling issued Monday, the three-justice panel affirmed the trial court did not err in:

  • Allowing the victim to remain in the courtroom and sit at counsel table during trial
  • Permitting testimony about the victim’s lack of prior sexual history (deemed harmless error)
  • Finding sufficient evidence to prove Admire’s age, a required element of the charges

Admire must serve 85% of the sexual assault sentences and 50% of the abuse sentence before becoming eligible for release.
