The Galesburg Police Department issued the following statement to WGIL regarding the passing of 911 Dispatcher Abigail Small:
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Galesburg Police Department shares the passing of one of our dedicated team members, 911 Dispatcher Abigail Small. Abbey passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025, following a prolonged and courageous medical battle.
Abbey was a deeply valued member of the City of Galesburg Police Department. Her connection to the department was further strengthened by her husband, Officer Kyle Small, who served as a member of the City of Galesburg Police force.
On January 27, 2025, Abbey experienced a rare and life-threatening medical emergency during childbirth. She remained under medical care since that time. The outpouring of support from family, friends, and the entire community was a testament to the love and respect people held for Abbey, Kyle, and their two young daughters, Evelyn and Eleanor.
Please join us in honoring her life and immense contributions. As the calm, reassuring voice on the other end of a 911 call, Abbey helped countless people through their most challenging moments. Within our walls, she was a devoted colleague who brought warmth, professionalism, and joy to our workplace. More importantly, she was a cherished and exceptional wife, mother, daughter, and friend.
We extend our deepest sympathies and unwavering support to Abbey’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. We are profoundly grateful for the time she spent with us as part of our extended law enforcement family.
