South Prairie Street in downtown Galesburg is expected to reopen Monday as repairs to the Weinberg Arcade facade progress.
The nearly 100-year-old multi-tenant building, owned by Weinberg Arcade LLC, saw bricks fall from the facade early Saturday morning, breaking glass windows at ground-floor businesses including Edward Jones Financial Advisor at 76 S. Prairie St., Shannon Albritton stylist, and Soul Fuel Aesthetics. No injuries were reported.
Crews from Otto Baum Company, Inc., a central Illinois firm specializing in masonry and concrete restoration, have been on site addressing the damage.
Steve Gugliotta, director of community development for the city, said Friday the property owners have kept open lines of communication.
“The property owners have maintained open communication with the city and the mason is progressing with the necessary repairs recommended by an engineering firm,” Gugliotta said.

Inclement weather slowed progress Wednesday, requiring the street to stay closed through the weekend.
“The goal is to complete the east side repairs on Monday so that South Prairie Street can be reopened,” he added.
Once the east side is done and with the mason still mobilized, work will shift to maintenance on the south side, temporarily closing the sidewalk and possibly one lane of Simmons Street.
