Jessie Perez, co-owner of popular Taco Hideout restaurant, dies at 92

Jessie Perez, former co-owner of Taco Hideout — originally known as Little Acapulco — died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at Seminary Manor. She was 92.

Together with her husband Lupe, Jessie owned and operated the popular Galesburg Mexican restaurant for 30 years, from 1964 until their retirement in 1994. Even after retiring, she remained a fixture at the Hideout, helping her son Jack and forming many lifelong friendships with customers.

Jessie was a lifelong devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, and according to her obituary, loved spending time with her family and going shopping.

She is survived by her son, Jack Perez of Galesburg; daughters Linda Nolta and Teresa Mackey, both of Galesburg; brother Sam Leon of Galesburg; sister Mary Vega of Galesburg; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg, with the rosary prayed at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Jeffrey Stirniman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
