Galesburg District 205 adds police presence Tuesday after social media posts

Galesburg District 205 officials say they are aware of concerning social media posts directed toward Galesburg Junior/Senior High School and are taking precautions despite no specific threat being identified.

In a statement posted on the district’s Facebook page Monday night, officials said they are working closely with the Galesburg Police Department to investigate the posts and identify the person responsible.

“While no specific threat has been made, we are working closely with the Galesburg Police Department to provide extra police presence tomorrow at the school and also to thoroughly investigate who posted this and to bring that person to justice,” the statement read. “We prioritize student and staff safety and again we do not believe there is a specific threat. We will continue to monitor this situation closely and update families if new information becomes available.”

Superintendent of Schools John Asplund told WGIL Monday night that police are investigating the “upsetting” statements and parents have been notified.

“We don’t feel there is a credible threat, however we’re taking every precaution we can,” Asplund said. “We will have added police presence at school because we want people to feel safe.”
