The Knox County Clerk’s Office is kicking off a countywide tour of new voting equipment this week, starting with a stop in Abingdon on Tuesday.
The tour aims to familiarize voters with the updated system ahead of Election Day, according to a press release from County Clerk and Recorder Scott Erickson.
“The goal is to have a smooth transition from our old equipment to the next generation voting equipment,” Erickson said. “Voter confidence with the new voting system will hopefully help remove any concerns that voters may hear about in the media. Our ultimate mission is safe and secure elections and this is a big step towards keeping this mission moving forward.”
The first event is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6 at the Abingdon Community Center, 801 W. Martin St. in Abingdon. Attendees can view the equipment and ask questions.
Additional stops this week include from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7 at Rio Township Hall and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8 at the Big Catz Community Room in Knoxville. The office plans events at various locations throughout Knox County all month. Residents outside Galesburg are encouraged to attend any session.
