The social media page that sparked concern at Galesburg Junior/Senior High School has been taken down, and extra police presence is beginning to wind down, officials said Wednesday.
The district first alerted parents Monday night to “concerning social media posts directed towards Galesburg Junior/Senior High School.” While no specific threat was made, the district added extra police presence Tuesday as a precaution and worked with Galesburg police on an investigation.
Superintendent John Asplund said Wednesday attendance was down slightly Tuesday, though some of that can be attributed to illness. The district continues working with police to identify who posted the content.
Police Chief Kevin Legate tells WGIL the department was notified Dec. 31, 2025. Extra officers have been on site before and after school, with an officer inside the building. The duration will continue to be evaluated.
Legate said the post did not contain a direct threat against any specific individual or the school. The incident remains under investigation, and no further information is available.
