David L. Martin

David L. Martin, 74, of Monmouth died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

David was born Aug. 21, 1951, in Monmouth, the son of Francis “Polly” and Mabel Irene (Bennett) Martin. He married Joyce K. Whitehall on Oct. 3, 1970, in Monmouth. She preceded him in death Jan. 23, 2021.

David is survived by his son, Jason (Jennifer) Martin of Zanesville, Indiana; daughter, Kay (Clay) Parker of West Lafayette, Indiana; grandchildren, Shelby Parker, Derek Parker, Nolan Martin and Brock Martin; sisters, Nancy Wooddell of Monmouth, Theresa Martin of Monmouth, Mary Hull of Bedford, Texas, and Paula (Joey) Howe of Monmouth; son-in-law, Matt Helton; sisters-in-law, Ginger Martin, Janet Hart and Judy French; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Miller, Mike Louck and Steve (Sara) Whitehall; and several nieces and nephews, and dear friends Perman and Sue Hoch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; daughter, Julie Martin Helton; brothers, Jack Martin and Richard Martin; and sisters, Connie Miller and Judy Louck.

David graduated from Monmouth High School in 1969. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1970, serving as a food inspector in Bremerhaven, Germany during Vietnam until 1973, and continued in the National Guard until 1976.

David worked at Wilson Food Corporation in Monmouth, then as a juvenile correctional officer at Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility until retirement.

He was a devoted Catholic and member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth, All Saints Catholic Church in Logansport and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling and spending time with family and grandchildren. He was an accomplished taco maker.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, with a Rosary Service at 4:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, at Rans Funeral Home in Logansport, Indiana, followed by a graveside committal service at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Logansport.
