Knox County deputies pursue, arrest suspects in counterfeit currency case

Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies, with assistance from multiple agencies, pursued and arrested three suspects on Friday, Jan. 9 after a vehicle fled a traffic stop related to counterfeit currency offenses in Monmouth.

Deputies received information about the vehicle, which had fled from a Monmouth Police Department traffic stop and was seen traveling eastbound on US 34 into Knox County. When Knox County deputies attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle failed to yield, leading to a pursuit.

During the chase, deputies used a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to stop the vehicle in Galva. The occupants exited and fled on foot. Deputies located and apprehended two suspects in separate areas, while a third was taken into custody with help from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Galva Police Department.

The suspects are believed to be involved in fraudulent activity across Illinois. The investigation is ongoing, with coordination from partnering agencies.

All three were taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Monmouth Police Department for processing.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Monmouth Police Department, Galva Police Department, and Henry County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the safe apprehension.
