A 41-year-old Moline man has been arrested on a Warren County warrant for three counts of criminal sexual assault and one count of domestic battery involving a Monmouth juvenile.
Fernando D. Fuentes Prieto was taken into custody in Shawnee, Kansas, after allegedly fleeing Illinois immediately following the offenses. Authorities believed he had fled to Kansas or Mexico, where he was born. He was extradited to Illinois for a detention hearing.
Warren County Assistant State’s Attorney Alex Whitman argued for detention, citing Fuentes Prieto as a flight risk, a danger to the victim, and a danger to the public. Circuit Judge James R. Standard agreed and ordered him held pending trial. Fuentes Prieto told the court he plans to hire an attorney. He is scheduled to return to court at 10 a.m. Feb. 5 on the matter of counsel.
Fuentes Prieto is also wanted in Rock Island County on similar charges.
