A $5 million leadership gift described as transformational by Monmouth College President Patricia Draves will support student housing, campus safety improvements, and digital transformation.
The donation from 1965 graduate William Goldsborough and his wife, Beverly, announced Wednesday, focuses on three priorities: expanding student opportunities, modernizing the campus, and investing in long-term growth.
A significant portion will permanently endow Peterson Residence Hall, providing ongoing resources for renovations, furnishings, and upkeep.
The gift will also support removal of long-vacant campus buildings to improve safety, appearance, and space for future development.
Nearly $2 million is targeted for digital transformation, one of Draves’ five foundational pillars since taking office in 2024.
“To remain competitive and future-ready, Monmouth must modernize its digital environment, both behind the scenes and in the ways we reach, teach, and engage students,” Draves said.
The investment will upgrade classroom technology, improve recruitment and communication tools, and prepare students for the modern workforce.
“Beverly and I made a decision to pull our estate gift forward so we could see its impact in our lifetime,” Goldsborough said. “We believe strongly in what’s happening at Monmouth right now, and we hope our decision encourages others to step forward and invest in the college’s momentum.”
Draves called the gift “profoundly thankful” for the Goldsboroughs’ vision and partnership.
“This remarkable $5 million leadership gift is transformational for Monmouth,” she said. “Bill and Beverly’s generosity reflects deep belief in Monmouth’s mission and its future, and it is already changing what’s possible for our students and our campus.”
Hannah Maher, vice president for development and college relations, added the gift accelerates momentum and invites others to contribute.
“I wish I had considered pulling our gift forward earlier, but better late than never,” Goldsborough said. “It’s only natural to want to see how one’s philanthropy can make a difference at an institution.”
