Robert T. Taylor, 92, a lifelong Galesburg resident, died at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2026, in Allure of Knox County, with family by his side.

He was born June 16, 1933, in Galesburg, the son of Berthol and Eugenia (Green) Taylor. He married Helen V. Wells on September 3, 1955, in Terre Haute, Indiana.

He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Helen; a daughter, Dolores (Marc) Thomas of Oak Creek, Wisconsin; one granddaughter, Bridget Lipscomb; four great grandchildren, Markus Green, Brinden Green, Thomas “T.J.” Eichelberger Jr., and Pamela Eichelberger; a great-great granddaughter, Nala Green; two sisters, Shirley Wallace and Christine (Clinton) Haynes, both of Galesburg; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Pamela Brannon; and siblings, James Taylor, William Taylor, Marilyn Haynes, Elizabeth Taylor, Betty Weeks, and Delores Taylor.

After graduating from Galesburg High School in 1951, Robert served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. Robert worked for the Galesburg Clinic in maintenance and printing for 42 years. He retired in 1998.

Robert was a former member of Israel of God’s Church. During that time, he taught Sunday school and participated in a singing quartet. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and horseshoes. Robert was an expert builder and carpenter. He built his and Helen’s first home and was responsible for numerous improvements to their current home.

Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral and Cremation Services. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. William Green officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family or the Alzheimer’s Association.
