Drivers on Interstate 74 near Brimfield should plan for delays beginning this week.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced construction on the I-74 bridges over Peoria County Highway 69 west of Brimfield begins Thursday, March 5. The westbound bridge will close March 6, with traffic diverted to the eastbound span in a head-to-head configuration. Work on the westbound span is expected to be complete in early October.
IDOT urges motorists to allow extra travel time through the area. When possible, alternate routes should be considered to avoid the work zone. Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, avoid mobile devices, and watch for workers and equipment.
