
The Galesburg High School boys basketball program capped a successful 2025-26 season Sunday evening at its annual banquet, honoring award winners across all three levels of the program.
All three teams posted winning records. The freshman team went 21-4, the sophomore team finished 21-8, and the varsity squad closed at 18-13.
Varsity awards
Keigen Crummer earned the program’s top honors, taking home both Team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year.
Tobi Kivunina was named Defensive Player of the Year, while Leslie Kelley received the Leadership Award alongside Stone Thiel. Kelley was also recognized as a four-year varsity player.
Stone Thiel received the Leadership through Adversity Award. Demetrius Watson earned the 6th Man Award, Heart & Hustle Award, and the Leadership Award.
Jaxon Wyatt received the Offensive Impact Award. Eden Mayala earned both the Defensive Impact Award and the Rising Star Award, sharing the latter with Cesaire Bile.
Rahkim McCellan was named Most Improved. Grady Hickey and Day’Vion Jones shared the Future of the Program Award. Gabe Irizarry was named Practice Player of the Year.
Malakai Casillas and Derrick Curtis each received Commitment Awards.
Late last month, Crummer and Mayala were named to the Western Big 6 All-Conference second-team, while Bile was an honorable-mention selection.
Academic Excellence
The varsity program also posted a cumulative GPA of 3.57.
The following players were recognized for Academic Excellence: Keigen Crummer, Leslie Kelley, Tobi Kivunina, Stone Thiel, Demetrius Watson, Malakai Casillas, Derrick Curtis, Grady Hickey, Eden Mayala, and manager Kalia Cunningham.
