Donald D. Smith Sr., 87, of Galesburg, Illinois, died on March 5, 2026, at Seminary Manor of Galesburg.
He was born December 25, 1938, in Smith’s Ferry, Pennsylvania, the son of Lesley and Ada (Adkins) Smith. He was raised and educated in Smith’s Ferry.
He married Dolly May Ice on August 4, 1961, and she preceded him in death on October 14, 2021.
Survivors include his children, Starlet Joy Smith of Galesburg, Donald “Bub” (Melissa) Smith of New Windsor, and Clifford M. (Tina) Smith of Chillicothe; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.
Don worked for Maytag Manufacturing for more than 25 years. He enjoyed photography, was a Boy Scout leader, and loved to fish, garden, and do yard work. Don was a volunteer firefighter for several years and served as fire chief. He attended church services at the Alexis Presbyterian Church and Galesburg Towers.
