J. ‘Maxine’ Windsor

J. “Maxine” Windsor, age 97, formerly of Oneida, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 1 p.m.

Maxine was born on November 21, 1928 in Youngstown, Illinois to Henry Russell and Helen Naomi (Watt) Day. She graduated from Biggsville, Illinois, then attended Western Illinois Teachers College and taught for one year in a one-room schoolhouse. She later worked in the bookstore at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois.

Maxine married Bene Windsor on June 12, 1949 in Biggsville, Illinois. In the early years of their marriage, they farmed in the Macomb area, then moved to Iowa where they farmed together for 15 additional years before returning to Illinois to make their forever home in Oneida.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Women’s Church group, the Oneida Women’s Club, and the Knox County Home Extension Community Association.

She is survived by her children, Karen (Gene) Larkin of Roseville, Illinois, Janet (Al) Curry of Toulon, Illinois, Jo (Bill) Barnett of Taylorville, Illinois, Jim (Debbie) Windsor of Atkinson, Illinois, and Karla (Jeff) Smith of Princeville, Illinois; 12 grandchildren: Beth (Aaron) Parsons, Shawn (Amanda) Larkin, Paul Larkin, Lyn (Tom Harrington) Curry, Seth (Seena) Curry, Tim (Audra) Barnett, Jeff (Amanda) Barnett, Reba (Josh) Warren, Eric (Cait) Windsor, Adam Windsor, Kristi Smith, and Andy (Becca) Smith; 17 great-grandchildren: Hannah and Ronald Ludington, Molly Parsons, Connor, Elise, Cadence, and Derek Larkin, Callum and Emerson Curry, Sabrina, Rion, and Chase Warren, Spencer and Jackson Barnett, Henry and Teddy Windsor, and Brenan and Mabrey Smith; and three great-great-grandchildren: Ralph, Scarlet, and Oliver Ludington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bene, and all of her siblings.

A visitation will be held Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 9 to 11 a.m., with funeral services beginning at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Oneida, Illinois, with Pastor David Pyell officiating.

Maxine’s family would like to encourage attendees to write a note, write down a memory, or place a photo in the memory box for her ashes, which will be placed near her casket.
