Jessica Jones is starting her third season as head coach of the Galesburg High School girls soccer program. I had an opportunity to ask her to give me a preview of this year’s Streaks soccer.

Last Year

Record: 10-10 (including postseason, 10-9 regular season)
Conference: 3-4 in conference, finishing sixth.

Key Players Lost from Last Year

Last year, we graduated three seniors. Zoe Beavers was a strong outside back. Eliana Juarez was our number two for goals scored. She is now playing at Knox.

Key Returners

Mady Lardi — Captain, senior, and leading scorer for the last two years. Will break the career scoring record this year and has been chasing the season scoring record.

Leairah Harrison — Captain and senior midfielder. Steady in the midfield and a great leader.

Christina Swan — Captain and senior defender.

Grace Hansen — Captain and sophomore. She will lead our defense, as she did last year.

Haleigh Jezek-Irle and Jayme Jezek-Irle — Freshman and junior sisters who will anchor the center of our field as attacking center mid and defending center mid.

Three Things That Need to Go Right for the Team to Have a Successful Year

  1. Working as a team every day and every game. Good communication, support, and dedication to success.
  2. Continuing to develop our bench for more depth when we are making substitutions.
  3. Increasing our fitness level so that we can perform our best every game.

Big Home Games

Our senior night will be May 14.

April 2 against Macomb should be a good game for fans to see both varsity and JV in action.

We play Monmouth-Roseville April 16.

We play Limestone April 30. We have lost to them by one goal the last four games and are excited to break what we have dubbed “The Limestone Curse.”

The Streaks’ entire home schedule is on MaxPreps.
