United Junior Senior High School has a new principal. Michael Washabaugh, currently assistant principal at Galesburg Jr./Sr. High School, has been named to the position, effective July 1.
The United Community Unit School District #304 Board of Education approved the appointment at a special meeting Wednesday. Washabaugh brings 14 years of experience in education, including four years in administrative roles.
United Superintendent Tom Hawkins said Washabaugh’s background in both the classroom and administration made him the right fit.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Washabaugh to our leadership team,” Hawkins said. “His extensive background in both the classroom and the front office brings a balanced perspective that is essential for the continued growth of our junior senior high school.”
Washabaugh said he is looking forward to joining the United community.
“I am honored to serve the students, staff, and families of United Junior Senior High School,” Washabaugh said.”I have seen the pride that the communities have for United, and I am excited to be a part of that. My goal is to ensure that our school is a place where innovation thrives and where every student feels empowered to reach their full potential.
“Together, we will focus on continuous improvement and a school that celebrates both our collective achievements and individual growth.”
The district plans to introduce Washabaugh to the community during a “Meet the Principal” event on Tuesday, Aug. 11, in the United Junior Senior High School Commons. The event will be part of seventh-grade orientation and locker nights.
