Galesburg’s Time Capsule: a deadly boxing match, MacArthur’s return, and a Knox hitter on fire

100 years ago — 1926

America was battling with what to do with the sport of boxing. In this story, the winning boxer had actually killed his opponent when he knocked him out.

 

75 years ago — 1951

General Douglas MacArthur is welcomed to the U.S. Congress. He became a controversial figure — a hero to some and not to others.

 

50 years ago — 1976
