Two serious crashes in Warren County within less than 24 hours have left a 19-year-old dead and six others hospitalized.
The first crash occurred Monday, June 1, at approximately 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of 245th Ave. and 120th Street in Kelly Township. A gray Ford Fusion failed to yield at the intersection and was struck by a black Peterbilt truck-tractor semi-trailer. The driver of the Ford Fusion, Nathan Switzer, 19, of Alexis, was declared dead at the scene, according to Warren County Coroner Al McGuire. The driver of the truck-tractor reported no injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
The second crash occurred Tuesday, June 2, at approximately 5:28 a.m. on U.S. 67 at 280th Ave. in Monmouth. A tan Lexus GX460 and a white Freightliner truck-tractor dump-trailer were involved in a two-unit rollover crash. All six occupants of the Lexus were transported to area hospitals with injuries. Their conditions have not been reported. The driver of the dump truck reported no injuries. U.S. 67 was shut down for several hours but has since reopened.
The driver of the Lexus, a 24-year-old male from Rock Island, was issued citations for Improper Lane Usage, Passing in a No Passing Zone, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
Illinois State Police Troop 4 is investigating both crashes.
