Evan Massey is the former Galesburg High School girls basketball coach, retiring as one of the most successful coaches in Illinois history. He writes history features and a weekly Time Capsule column for WGIL.
Looking through the local newspaper in the Summer of 1971, Galesburg had people of all ages participating in sports of all kinds. There were youngsters taking lessons, going to camps, and playing Little League. There were teens and adults competing in tennis, golf, softball, and baseball.
