Beverly Jean “Bev” Powell, 92, of Galesburg, died at 1:55 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, in Seminary Manor, following a short illness.
She was born Oct. 8, 1933, in Alpha, the daughter of Nyle and Lola Jesse (Elliot) Snyder. She married James K. “Dave” Powell on Dec. 28, 1952, in Alexis. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 2015, after nearly 63 years of marriage.
She is survived by her daughter, Cherie (Dennis) Meyer of Navarre, Florida, and two granddaughters, Melissa (Michael) Weber of Dayton, Ohio, and Malinda (Christoffer) Tidwell of Washington, D.C. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Robert (Dottie) Snyder and William (Sandy) Snyder.
Bev worked as an accountant for Admiral/Maytag/Whirlpool for 33 years before retiring in 1996. She graduated from Alexis High School in 1951 and attended Carl Sandburg College. Bev was a dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking and gardening.
