Western Illinois Wind Band Spring Concert

The Western Illinois Wind Band will present their Spring Concert on May 15. 2018 at 7 pm at the Avon Grade School. The Concert Band is directed by Bernie Potter and will feature vocal soloist Tammy Weaver and Guest Conductors Fred Herink, Katherine Janssen, and Deanna Chatterton on the program.
During this concert, the Band will take the audience on a journey through time covering 100 years of music from musicals, movies, and great composers whose music you will recognize and enjoy. George M. Cohan, Rogers and Hammerstein, John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Robert Hawkins, Marvin Hamlisch, and Paul McCartney are all a part of the musical journey.
Guest vocal soloist Tammy Weaver will present a wide variety of styles as she performs The Way We Were, Highlights from CATS, and Jump, Jive, and Wail, accompanied by the ensemble.
A wide variety of music will be presented from Star Wars to Chariots of Fire, Forest Gump ro E.T., Pirates of the Caribbean to Surrey with the Fringe on top, to Grand Old Flag and How The West Was Won, with James Bond’s Live and Let Die and Driving Miss Daisy. Something for everyone to recognize and enjoy.
There is no admission for the concert. A Free Will Offering will be collected. The community is invited to attend and enjoy these excellent musicians who travel to weekly from throughout Central Illinois to Avon to practice and perform three concerts each year.
