RED BUD, Ill. (AP) — A 20-year-old southern Illinois woman has pleaded not guilty to reckless homicide in connection with a January crash that killed two Randolph County women.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Crystal Steinheimer of Red Bud entered the plea Thursday in Monroe County Circuit Court. She faces a second felony charge of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol.
Steinheimer is accused of causing the deaths of 19-year-old Abigail Liefer of Ruma and 20-year-old Hannah Marie Porter of Red Bud. Her vehicle crossed the center line while driving northbound on Illinois Route 159 and collided head-on with a southbound car driven by Liefer. Porter was a passenger in Liefer’s car.
Steinheimer faces up to 28 years in prison on both felony counts. She is due back in court on June 25.
