At last night’s Knox County Board Meeting, Reverend Tyson Parks III had his contract approved by the board to be the new Compliance Officer for Fines and Fees.
Board Member Greg Bacon introduced Revered Parks and told the board that the compliance officer would help clients with fines before they are sent to collections.
Bacon says a few other people and he went to Tazewell County to see how their compliance officer worked and found the system to be smooth.
Bacon tells the board members that the compliance officer will work with clients on how they can pay down fines, but will not allow them to take advantage of the system.
“It’s not a coddling system, we’re not going to coddle these people, they will get one or two chances and then it goes to collection,” says Bacon. “They are signing a contract that states they will pay the money. Tyson has got it to set up anyway he wants it. If the people and Tyson think that the 15th is the right day, then they set it up on the 15th. Whoever the clients are have a lot of influence on when the date can be comfortable.”
Bacon says Reverend Parks should be ready to start by the end of the year.
The board also approved contracts for the administrative adjudication hearing officers and hearings should start by August.
