The Galesburg High School Marching Band played as hundreds of Galesburg residents lined the streets of Main and Cherry to watch the 123rd Annual Labor Day Parade.Several local organizations, unions, and officials threw candy and waved at crowds as they walked the streets. Corey Platt from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers participated in today’s parade.
Platt tells WGIL that the parade is enjoyable for everyone, whether they are walking in it or watching it.
“It’s always a good time. I always enjoy seeing the public support that we get when everybody comes out and enjoys the parade,” says Platt. “Everybody likes being in the parade and everybody likes to watch the parade.”
Platt says the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers supports the community, so it was nice seeing so many residents support them today as they walked.
“We’re directly tied to the community,” says Platt. “As electricians, we support the businesses around here and, in turn, they support us and our family. It’s a circle that needs to stay in place.”
Parade Attendee Becky Collins says it was a nice event to bring her nephew to and enjoy with the family.
