A police standoff that took place for the better part of an hour near Lake Storey in Galesburg has all but dispersed with unclear results.
Galesburg Police, GHAS and the Knox County Sheriff’s Department were on scene in front of the 100 block of Valley View Road around 4:30 p.m.
Authorities could be seen yielding semiautomatic weapons and shotguns and were barricaded behind a line of police cars, while others moved back and forth into and out of the front yard of a residence.
Witnesses nearby reported that they heard gunshots. Authorities have only labeled the incident as a “dangerous situation” at this point.
At approximately 5 p.m. while on scene, a loud bang was heard. Shortly after, Police could be seen dispersing further up the roadway.
The incident stopped traffic on Valley View for approximately an hour as well. Authorities have not released any additional information at this point.
