Fire heavily damages Champaign County board chair’s home

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) –The Champaign Fire Department says a blaze has extensively damaged the home of the Champaign County board chair.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports that there were no injuries in the Sunday night fire at Pattsi Petrie’s home in Champaign.

Champaign Fire Department Deputy Fire Marshal Randy Smith says investigators haven’t determined a cause but don’t consider the blaze suspcious. Smith says “there is quite a bit of fire damage in the building and quite a bit of property damage too.”

Petrie is a Democrat and has been chair of the county since last December. She has been a member of the county board since December 2010.
