Christmas time isn’t far off, and for the 24th year, a local domestic violence assistance agency will play Santa.
The Safe Harbor Family Crisis Center in Galesburg is collecting gifts for the kids this year, in support of helping families who may need a little help this holiday season.
Child Advocate Cassie Ford tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL, that they’re looking for some elves to lend a hand.
“We usually start in October and that is when I solicitate all of the local agencies,” says Ford. “By November 1st we get our Christmas tree up, and that is when we start putting up names. The community can come in, pick out a name, and then from there on out we just ask the gifts to be returned by the second or third week in December just so we can get something if they don’t have it in their bag. We can provide that for them.”
Ford says the yule tide tradition that started in 1991 has really picked up over the years. Gifts will range from supplies and needs to items that children are asking for. Ford says individuals who wish to participate can come pick a name or multiple names at the organizations Main Street office.
